Do you accept insurance?
We do not accept any insurance at SexTherapy-Online, PLLC however many of our clients submit their Superbills to their insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement. Superbills are automatically issued on the 11th of the month. If you are in interested in submitting Superbills to your insurance, please notify your therapist as additional diagnosis needs to be made.

Why can’t I find a sex therapist that accepts insurance?
We completely understand the challenge of finding a sex therapist who accepts insurance and if you do find a sex therapist who does, they likely have long waiting lists. There are a few reasons why many sex therapists do not accept insurance or participate in network with insurance companies. Each therapist is unique, however, so this is not an exhaustive list.

  • Sex and relationship therapy is generally considered “specialty care”. We don’t agree with this as we think that sex and relationship therapy should be available to all. Health insurance companies are really designed for the minimum of preventative and basic care and don’t cover relationship therapy outright and don’t cover sexual or relationship diagnoses.
  • Health insurance companies require a diagnosis for treatment and many sex therapists don’t align with diagnosing sexual behavior as a mental health issue or diagnosis normative behavior as pathological.
  • Health insurance companies reimbursement rates are generally low for specialty care and sex and relationship therapists generally have advanced training and certifications that are costly and time consuming to obtain and maintain
  • When sex therapists contract with health insurance companies, the health insurance companies can request our records. That means your personal information can be shared with your insurance company. Your privacy is paramount so many sex therapists won’t contract with health insurance companies.
  • It takes providers a significant amount of time to work with insurance companies. Some of the tasks that therapists who take insurance have to do on a regular basis.

How do I get reimbursed by my insurance for sessions?
If you are seeking reimbursement from your insurance company, you first need to verify if your insurance plan has out-of-network benefits and understand what the deductible is for those benefits. Your insurance company will not reimburse you for out-of-network services until you have met your out-of-network benefits.

If you do have out-of-network benefits and know your deductible, you can submit the Superbills from each session. They will be emailed to you automatically on the 11th of each month (from the previous month).

If you do desire to try to get reimbursed from your insurance, please let the therapist know as you will need a diagnosis code for your Superbills.

What are your fees?
You can find the fees for the services by going to our Fees and Sessions Page.

Do you have a Credit Card Fee?
All credit card charges have a 3% fee to cover a portion of rising credit card processing fees.

What is the Deposit for?

  • A $100 non-refundable, non-transferable fee will be charged when you make your initial appointment to hold your first appointment (it can be applied to your first session fee but will not be transferred to future appointments or refunded).
